My Rendition of the Food Pyramid

I have learned that everything we’ve been taught is somewhat “upside down….” Instead of getting discouraged, make small changes every day to improve your health.

THE USDA’S FOOD PYRAMID

I literally just turned it upside down to create my own. THEY HAVE CARBS AS THE BIGGEST FOOD GROUP (MEANING THEY ARE HEALTHY FOR US AND WE SHOULD BE EATING MORE) AND, YET, THEY ALSO HAVE CARBS ON TOP AS THE FOOD GROUP THAT WE SHOULD NOT BE EATING MORE OF. IT JUST DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. Also, there’s nothing about hydration or exercise.

Sometimes I hesitate to blog about things that can be confusing. When I entered the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I remember thinking, “Oh my goodness.. everything I learned is upside down! How can I make these changes? I’m so overwhelmed!” That was 12 years ago and I started out making small changes that, over time, has added up to a whole new lifestyle.

Can I admit I feel differently? Oh yeah! I have more energy now than I did when I was in my 20’s!!

I liken it to new “wiring” and “plumbing” in your house.. everything runs more efficiently.

Once you begin to make small changes, life begins to unfold in new ways. Your perspective changes. What you once did without thinking now becomes something that you definitely think about. It becomes less overwhelming as the changes are incorporated into your very being.

Once you know, you can’t unknow….
